Nostalgic for 30 years ago?
From 1974 (or thereabouts), a look at the sleepy intersection of Timonium and Greenspring Roads. Note traffic lights, Timonium Drive-In sign (same location as current Holiday Inn sign). Trivia: Timonium Drive-In was one of the top 10 drive-in's by size in the USA. (2,479 cars!)

And for another view from the same era...
"Downtown" Timonium - Long before rampant overdevelopment, nightmarish traffic, and McMansions. Crossing York Road back then was easier than crossing Timonium Road today!
Cross Timonium Rd today and you're liable to get KILLED.

Community Issues
Community comments welcome at:   (Especially from our visitors logging in from Baltimore County Govt offices.)

What is "prior restraint ?" - a threat to First Amendment freedom; unfortunately, it's alive and well in Baltimore County, MD. Read about this site's fight to stay independent.

"Behind the ostensible government sits enthroned an invisible government owing no allegiance and acknowledging no responsibility to the people. To destroy this invisible government, to befoul this unholy alliance between corrupt business and corrupt politics is the first task of the statesmanship of today." President Theodore Roosevelt, 1906 Outrageous Government on the prowl.

History of our neighborhood

What and Where is Pine Valley / Valleywood?

PVVW is a community of single-family homes just west of Interstate 83 in Timonium, Maryland. Built in several phases, the original homes (Pine Valley) were completed in late 1958.  Valleywood was begun in 1961, and largely completed by 1966. The home styles are typical of the period. Pine Valley features two basic styles, ranch and split-level, with some minor variations in floorplans, and offered the new homeowner a choice of full brick exteriors or wood siding exteriors with brick trim on the front of the home. Pine Valley West (the second phase built by the original builders) and Valleywood featured a greater variety of plans, from Cape Cod and Colonial to Contemporary. Pine Valley lots average a quarter-acre, Valleywood lots are somewhat larger. The average price for a new home in Pine Valley was about $15,000.

Who Built Pine Valley?

The Pine Valley Construction Company built the neighborhood on former farmland and woods located behind a handful of 1940s Cape Cod houses along West Timonium Road  Running the company were Harvey and Joseph Meyerhoff - familiar names to Marylanders, who know the Meyerhoffs for their many contributions to local culture and charities.  The Meyerhoffs have continued in the construction business under a different company name, and have built many properties in the Baltimore area. The architect of record was Kenneth Cameron Miller, who passed away in the early 1990s. Pine Valley West was built three years after Pine Valley, and featured several newer house plans.

Who Built Valleywood?

Valleywood, which extended Pine Valley Drive, and added many more homes to the community, was begun in 1961.  It was built by George Strutt and Preston Poole.  The Strutt Group continues to build homes and other projects in the area. Valley Wood was one of the first communities in the region to be built in such a way as to preserve the existing trees - resulting in a "nestled under shade trees" (to quote the builder) look.
